Jane received her Bachelor of Arts in 1986 from Rutger's College at Rutger's University and a Masters of Business Administration from New York University in 1990. She studied photography at Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan, the International Center of Photography in NYC, at Photographer's Workplace in Norwalk, and most recently, The Maine Photographic Workshops.
The daughter of an abstract artist and ceramicist, Jane has studied various art disciplines, formally and informally, her entire life. Jane began taking pictures 13 years ago following the birth of her first child, skillfully combining her fine art background with her love of people. Her early years focused on mastery of film images, finding herself in a darkroom for hours at a time; however, more recently, she has embraced the digital age in photography.
Jane's numerous awards over the last several years include: 1st place and honorable mention from Westport Magazine in 2001 and 2002, respectively, and two 3rd place awards at the Norwalk Camera Club's 2000 and 2003 competitions. Jane was accepted into the following juried shows: Silvermine in 2001,"Focus'02" by the Wilton Arts Council, the 28th Annual Juried Exhibition at the Ridgefield Guild of Artists in 2005, and the Ridgefield 300th Anniversary Exhibit in 2008.
Jane La Motta Photography focuses on portraiture, events, and landscape photography. She prefers to shoot in natural settings but does some studio work as well. She is a member of the PPA and CTPPA.
